Summary:  St. Maria Faustina Kowalska, known as the Apostle of Divine Mercy, was born in Glogoweic, Poland. At the age of seven, she felt called to enter the religious life. In August, 1925 she joined the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy. Jesus appeared and spoke to Faustina throughout her life and under obedience she recorded their discussions in, “Diary”. Jesus instructed her on his divine mercy and told her to have painted the Divine Mercy image and spread his message of mercy to the “whole world”. Pope John Paul II embraced this message and set Divine Mercy Sunday as a perpetual feast day on the Sunday following Easter Sunday. At this time Jesus told Faustina, “ the flood gates of mercy will be open”. St. Faustina died October 5, 1938 at the age of 33.
