Francis Cabrini dreamed of being a missionary to China. She dressed her dolls as nuns and pretendedher paper boats manned by violets were floating offto foreign lands. She did become a missionary but not to China. After founding the Missionaries of theSacred Heart she came to New York to help Italianimmigrants. Obstacles constantly blocked her pathbut she forged on establishing foundations in New Orleans, Chicago and a summer camp for orphans in Colorado. By the time of St. Cabrini’s death, through the practice of charity and determination, fifteen hundred women working in eight countries were providing education, nursing and care for orphans.
